Where There Is No Vision

sea waves GIF

Waves are always in constant motion. A distinctive aspect of their behavior is the consistent variation in the way they come ashore. Each one is unique. Goals are this way, too. They serve as a guiding light, illuminating the path we wish to take in our personal and professional lives. Every goal we have is attainable in different ways. Like the ebb and flow of waves, goals can never be achieved without an unrelenting motion.

Staying focused on the objectives we set requires commitment. Our goals are only achievable if we commit time, effort, and sometimes resources to reach them. How many of us are guilty of making new resolutions, only to forget about them by spring? Even with everything I achieve in a day, I still need to work intentionally towards my goals.

At the end of 2024, I drafted steps to reach my goals for the months ahead. I listed everything I intend to accomplish by December 31, 2025. When I finished my list, I pinned it to a corkboard in my office. This will motivate me to look at them daily whenever I'm inclined to begin procrastinating.

"Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he." - Proverbs 29:18

While there are many versions of this verse, I'm sure we can all agree that one must first have a vision before setting out to accomplish it. Creating a list of goals is simple, but putting in the effort to achieve them can be challenging. To make a substantial impact by 2025, we need to consistently advance towards achieving our accomplishments. In other words, make notes on your progress.

For many of us, accountability may be the one thing we need to see our visions through. We may not achieve everything on our lists, but knowing that we set out to try is far better than not trying at all. Having someone to hold us accountable might help us with staying on task. Why? Because you know the day will come when they’ll ask: What have you done lately?
